The first speaker was Simon Shen, Test Lead at ZAP Technology. He gave a great presentation about his test automation journey in his company. He detailed how he started as the only tester and as time progressed the company recognised the value of testing and automation and increased the size of the team.

He has kept pace with new and emerging technologies, embracing Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment tools and has successfully used them to position his company at the forefront of BI solutions.

He gave an honest account of his experience with test automation which appeared to resonate with the audience judging by the knowing nods that could be seen. He detailed various hurdles he and his team faced when achieving the successful integration and concluded with a live demonstration of test automation for his product. Time was against him towards the end however he was sought after during the networking break to answer any questions.  Simon’s presentation is available on our downloads page: http://www.anztb.org/downloads.php#BrisbaneSIGiST

The second speaker was a regular at Brisbane SIGiST’s – Percy Pari Salas, Technical Test Consultant at Planit Testing, who covered the very relevant topic how some aspects of test automation are not always taken in to account when planning and therefore often forgotten.

Percy went through various common aspects of test automation that impact success in this space and detailed areas which are best suited for automation. Not everything is a suitable candidate for automation and Percy made it clear that while it might be the ‘flavour of the month’ it is not always the right flavour. Taking the time to properly investigate suitable tools as well as what each is capable of in addition to what outcomes you want to achieve is important.  Percy’s presentation is available on our downloads page: http://www.anztb.org/downloads.php#BrisbaneSIGiST
